The day I learnt to cook
By Angad Nanal
At times feeling hungry for what you want to eat just makes a person very hungry and this is exactly what happened to me. I always thought cooking was easy but then I realized some odd facts which still make me laugh.
I learnt how one (teaspoon) tsp of turmeric powder can change the colour of the dish tremendously compared to a pinch of the same. It was hilarious when I think now, how I added the spices of red chilli powder, coriander powder, jeera powder and forgot the salt. It was only much later that I realized after the marination process that something was missing and managed to add the salt, mix the curd and insert the chunks into the skewer which took me ages with my hands all messy.
At last, I could cook my own dish with the sautéed onions, capsicum, tomatoes as filers to add taste to my yummy preparation. Though I was careful I kept burning my fingers. That's when I realised good things come at a cost. My wait to eat the masala paneer tikka made me forget the burning sensation of my fingers. Most importantly, although it is no secret that I have learnt how to satisfy my taste buds, my dada’s masala paneer tikka is magic and no other masala paneer tikka in the world can get better that it.
